Not another book blog!?!

Hey Hey Hey! I'm pretty sure you landed here from our Loc’d & Lit Instagram page or from our Pinterest board. My name is Triciah Claxton and while Alanna will primarily handle the Loc'd & Lit instagram page, I'll be more so managing the blog side of our website.

So a little about me - just like any other woman I wear many hats. I'm a wife, mama of three, immigration lawyer, Buffalo wings connoisseur, TV junkie, and avid lover of books. Books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Even before I learned how to read, some of my earliest memories in life are of me on my father’s lap while he read me a bedtime story.

So what do you do when you are literally bursting at the seams after reading a good book? Or when a book simmers and stays with you for days, weeks, even years after you’ve read it and you just want to dissect it and exchange ideas with others? Well first off, you hit up your fellow book boo Alanna and you launch a podcast. After that, when you know that you still have more to say and ideas to share, you decide that you’re going to finally start the blog that's been tugging at your brain for a while now.

Behind the Scenes Fun Fact: I am shaking in my boots as I type this and I’m nervous as hell to click post. But I’m going to do it anyway because it's something that I’ve wanted to do for a long time and I’m ready to stop being scurred.

When I typed the word courage into Google, the first definition that popped up was “the ability to do something that frightens one.” I looked through some other definitions but that is the one that resonated with me the most. That is when one of my favorite literary heroines sprang to mind - Janie Crawford. Janie is the main character in Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God and her indomitable spirt and never-ending search for love and a life lived on her terms made her a feminist icon for the ages. One of the greatest aspects of the book that has endeared Janie to me forever was the ownership that she took over her life story by retelling it in her own words when she returned to her hometown after the tragic death of her beloved Teacake (insert swoon). Janie knew how the townsfolk were gonna chat and she said bloop! Nah, this is how it is and this is how it went. I have always found such power and inspiration in that act and it’s Janie’s spirit that is guiding me now as I embark on this new blogging journey.

So my main purpose in creating this blog is to create a space where I can get my thoughts out in the written form as well as foster a sense of community with my fellow readers. Yeah I'm going to share my ideas but I want to hear yours too. So first things first, be sure to check out the Loc’d & Lit podcast where we get into our latest reads, and then if you want to keep the convo going, be sure to check here for additional musings and book reviews. I'm excited to start this journey with you guys and can't wait to see where the road will take us.
