Early 2021 Book releases I can’t wait to get my hands on!
So even though my TBR list is out of control (40+ and counting), hey, don’t judge! I thought this was a safe space. Anyhoo, that still doesn't stop me from looking through the upcoming book release lists for the first quarter of 2021 and getting thoroughly excited. Here are some titles that have caught my eye and that I can't wait to get my hands on.
The Wife Upstairs - Rachel Hawkins
Jane Eyre was one of the first classics that I fell in love with back in middle school. When I saw that this book would be a modern twist and a retelling of this beloved tale, I knew it was immediately going on my to-read list.
Release date: January 5
The Charmed Wife - Olga Grushin
Bippity Boppity Boop! When I tell you that I can recite every line to this movie...like I broke my family VCR back in the day because I watched and rewound Cinderella multiple times a day. If you don't know, then now you know that Cinderella is on my top 10, top 5, top 3 list of favorite Disney movies of all time and I was immediately intrigued by the premise of this book. It’s essentially billed as a modern day fairy-tale in which Cinderella wants Prince Charming dead. Needless to say, I’m in!
Release Date: January 12
Just As I Am - Cicely Tyson
I love reading memoirs and getting inspiration from dope ass, bomb ass, kick ass women, and Cicely Tyson definitely checks all boxes. She is a portrait of style and grace and I can't wait to hear her talk about her life, career, triumphs, lows, and everything in between.
Release Date: January 26
Life After Death: A Novel (The Coldest Winter Ever Book 2) - Sister Souljah
Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!! When the news of this sequel first hit the interwebs back in early December, sixteen year old me screamed just like that. Winter Santiaga was that bish and I vividly remember being unable to put this book down back in the day. I cannot wait to continue Winter’s story and will be clearing my schedule to make all the time that I will need to read this book. My husband, kids, and manager have all been forewarned.
Release Date: March 2
How the One Armed Sister Sweeps Her House - Cherie Jones
As an island girl, I have to admit that I am immediately drawn to novels set in the Caribbean. There is something about the familiarity in the setting and the dialogue that always draws me in so I am definitely looking forward to this haves versus have nots story of interconnected lives in a resort town in Barbados.
Release Date: Feb 2
How Beautiful We Were - Imbolo Mbue
As I’ve already written about, Imbolo Mbue’s debut novel, Behold the Dreamers, set during the 2008 financial crisis, was a fantastic read and one that I highly recommend. I am definitely excited to check out her next novel when it drops about the long lasting impact of an American oil company and a small African village. I'm sure it won't disappoint.
Release Date: March 9
The Final Revival of Opal and Nev - Dawnie Walton
I love a fierce heroine, and so the first two lines of this book blurb from the publisher’s site immediately got my attention. “Opal is a fiercely independent young woman pushing against the grain in her style and attitude, Afro-punk before that term existed.” A strong female lead and vanguard music - sign me up please!
Release Date: April 20
